Lamborghini Urus SUV Concept Unveiled

Chinese media are reporting that the long rumored Lamborghini SUV will be on show at the Beijing Auto Show and will be named Urus. The Urus nameplate was initially rumored to be attached to a new Aventador replacement, but if the Chinese whispers are correct, then Urus will be an SUV rather than another supercar.

The Chinese whispers also went onto report that the three door SUV will use a face similar to the Estoque Concept. Although the show opens on Monday morning, its likely that we will be able to see the beast being rolled onto the auto show floor on Saturday or Sunday. We’ll keep you updated.

It's intended to be the supercar of SUVs, and with a 600-horsepower engine under the hood, it's off to a good start. Add to that the permanent all-wheel drive (another trait shared with all but one of Lamborghini's modern supercars), extensive use of carbon fiber, and a low-slung, streamlined, and sharply aggressive body, and the Urus looks as much like its supercar stablemates as the LM002 differed.

If produced, the SUV will not be built on a Lamborghini platform. Instead, it would utilize the architecture of the next-generation Audi Q7, due to appear in 2014. Lamborghini operates as a subsidiary of Audi, which itself is part of the Volkswagen Group.

Japanes autos sold well in December

Toyota reported a 32 per cent advance from December 2008, driven by strong sales of the Venza and RAV4 crossovers and the small Corolla sedan.

According to preliminary estimates, total December light-vehicle sales rose to an annualised 11.5m vehicles, up 15 per cent from a year earlier.

Honda Motor Co. said Tuesday that U.S. December auto sales rose 24.5% to 107,143 vehicles from 86,085 a year ago. Total Honda car sales rose to 61,020 units from 50,918 last year, and truck sales increased to 46,123 units from 35,167 a year ago. U.S. December Acura sales slid 1% to 10,575 vehicles from a year ago.

Subaru sales reached a new record, building on a loyal following in a niche market that it describes as “experience seekers”.

Meanwhile, South Korea's Hyundai, with an 8 per cent sales increase, has won market share by offering generous incentives and stepping up fleet sales.

China overtook the US last year as the world’s biggest car market. Analysts polled by Reuters estimate that sales in China soared by 44 per cent to 13.5m vehicles.
US Auto sales rise in December

And the largest U.S. auto maker--General Motors Co.--posted a 5.7% decline, but noted its process to sell-down Pontiac and Saturn inventory was ahead of schedule and reported a 2.2% increase for the four brands GM will keep following its streamlining.

As CNN reports, after auto sales slumped around the world last year, the industry is hopeful that consumers will return to their showrooms as some economic barometers highlight an economic recovery is underway.
